The third public hearing of the House 6 January committee has concluded, with bombshell testimony regarding the pressure campaign by Donald Trump and John Eastman to get then-Vice President Mike Pence to overturn the 2020 election in Congress.
An hour from the start, the committee tweeted that President Trump knew he lost the 2020 election and oversaw a scheme to overturn the will of the people, “when the vice president refused to go along with it, he unleashed a violent mob against Pence at the Capitol”.
Earlier, Rep Bennie Thompson, said his panel will be requesting testimony from Ginni Thomas, a longtime conservative activist and wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
“We think it’s time that we, at some point, invite her to come talk to the committee,” Mr Thompson said.
Emails received by the committee have revealed that Ms Thomas was in touch with members of the Trump course of action in the weeks leading up to 6 January 2021, including emails between her and John Eastman, the law professor who led the way in formulating a plan for Mr Pence to interfere in the election results.

Trump and allies nevertheless a ‘clear and present danger’ to American democracy
estimate Luittig says “I’m honoured beyond words by your words, I was honored on Jan 6 2021 and also honoured beyond words to be able to come to the aid of Vice President Mike Pence.”
He says Trump and his supporters keep a “clear and present danger” to American democracy because they “potential” in 2024 to overturn another election, should he or an ally run and be defeated.

He worries they may succeed where they failed in 2020.

Former Trump White House lawyer Eric Herschmann says he talked with Eastman on January 7 and told him: “Get a great effing criminal defense lawyer. You’re going to need it.”
Eastman then emailed Rudy Giuliani saying that he wanted to be on the Trump administration pardon list.
“I’ve decided that I should be on the pardon list, if that is nevertheless in the works,” he wrote. Eastman did not received a pardon.

An email is shown that Mr Jacob received from John Eastman after the riot had begun asking Pence to consider adjourning Congress for ten days and sending electors back to states.
Mr Jacob said he showed the email to Pence later, who thought it was “rubber room stuff” and “certifiably crazy”.

Pence and Second Lady Karen Pence were “frustrated” that Trump never checked in on them during the Capitol riot, Mr Jacob says.
Nevetheless, Pence was “determined” to finish the time of action of certifying the votes and to not give the rioters the “satisfaction” of disrupting the time of action.
