World of Warcraft Tactics – How to Kill Professor Putricide

Professor Putricide Tactics and Strategy: Overview of Phase 1

Professor Putricide is the final boss in the Plagueworks section of Icecrown Citadel, this guide will give you an overview on his abilities and the tactics and strategy you can use to defeat him. The mechanics of this encounter are based around 3 phases, in the first two your Off Tank will be taking control of an Abomination by using the table behind Professor Putricide. While this Abomination is active the complete raid will be taking continued damage so make sure you have a decent raid healer in your line up. The change between phases is marked by Professor Putricide dramatically the complete raid team with a debuff called “Tear Gas” and him guzzling potions from his table.

IMPORTANT: You only have 10 attempts to complete this encounter

Professor Putricide will throw out Ooze Piles close to random players that will deal damage should any player stand on them, that’s where the Abomination comes in, it’s the Off Tanks job to make the Abomination eat the Ooze Piles which also gives his Abomination 4 energy points.

During phase 1 and phase 2 Professor Putricide will be summoning two types of adds alternately. They always appear in the same location as they are summoned using his lab equipment, the two types of adds are Volatile Oozes which appear on the north side of the room and Gas Clouds which appear on the south.

Volatile Oozes will root a player and start to run at them, they absolutely MUST be nuked before they reach that player otherwise they explode for 70k damage shared between all players within a 10 yard range, this explosion causes a knock back effect.

Gas Clouds will again target 1 player and run at them, but this time they will receive a debuff that applies 10 stacks of Gaseous Bloat. It will tick for a small amount of damage every 2 seconds and one stack of the Gaseous Bloat will drop off the stack. These Gas Clouds should not, in any circumstances, be allowed to reach their target, otherwise they will cause raid wide AoE damage. The amount of AoE damage will depend on the number of stacks of Gaseous Bloat left on the player when the Gas Cloud hits its target, if there are a large number of stacks then you can expect some serious pain.

The Off Tanks Abomination has another ability which will help you to deal with the adds. Regurgitated Ooze will slow the target by 50% and deal damage. This is the meaningful to controlling the adds, make sure your Off Tank is ready for the add and has eaten enough Ooze Piles that he can cast Regurgitated Ooze as soon as they create.

The boss will also start to throw Gas Bombs, he throws two at a time and at random intervals. Just be sure not to stand on them, they are pretty simple to avoid but do a fair amount of damage if set off.

Professor Putricide Tactics & Strategy: Overview of Phase 2

In phase 2 Professor Putricide will do all of the abilities as phase 1 but also gains Malleable Goo where he basically throws slime by the air towards where an area where a player was standing. It’s important to move out of the way otherwise you can expect about 15k of damage and get your attack and casting speeds reduced by 200% for 15 seconds.

Professor Putricide Tactics and Strategy: Overview of Phase 3

During this phase you get all abilities from Phase 1 AND Phase 2. Basically this is now a race against time to get him killed before he kills you. Putricide will again stun the whole raid and guzzle his potions to go into phase 3 with a buff on him called Mutated Strength increasing his attack speed and strength by 50%. Every melee attack made against the boss from your tank will give your tank a debuff called Mutated Plague. This will start doing raid wide damage and stacks, the more stacks the higher the damage. It’s at this point that your Off Tank needs to drop their Abomination and tank swap Putricide and the DPS race begins. If your not fast enough you’ll get killed by the now mounting Ooze Piles that are no longer being eaten by the Abomination. The good news is that NO MORE ADDS will be spawning in phase 3.

Professor Putricide Tactics and Strategy: Raid Assignments

Main Tank: Professor Putricide

Off Tank: Phase 1 + 2: Abomination, Phase 3: Professor Putricide

Ranged DPS: Phase 1 + 2: Gas Clouds and Volatile Oozes, Professor Putricide, Phase 3: Professor Putricide

Melee DPS: Phase 1, 2 + 3: Professor Putricide (unless your melee heavy then you might need to put some on adds)

Healers: 1 on Raid healing, must have good output. 1 on Tank healing who can top up raid in phases 1 + 2 also. Good healers needed.

Professor Putricide Tactics and Strategy: Execution

1.Have your Main Tank begin the pull, your complete raid team should be on the south side of the room as the first add will ALWAYS create from the north and will ALWAYS be a Volotile Ooze. Have your Off Tank grab an Abomination and start eating the Ooze Piles the boss is throwing out. Once the Volatile Ooze spawns the Off Tank should use the abomination to cast Regurgitated Ooze on it and the Ranged DPS should closest nuke the add down

2.Have your team swap sides of the room ready for the next add to create (Gas Cloud) and repeat the Regurgitated Ooze and Nuke steps. If your not getting the add down fast enough to do the switch before the next one spawns your going to have to heal by as much as possible but in any case happens you MUST swap ends of the room.

3.Make sure your team are very mobile, dodging the Ooze Piles while the Off Tank uses the Abomination to eat them, the Off Tank MUST keep enough energy for the Abomination to use Regurgitated Ooze on the adds but any spare energy can be used on the boss if they have time.

4.Have your ranged team stack on top of each other just in case one of the Volatile Oozes gets to its target and explodes this will ensure the damage is spread enough for people to survive if they are at high health.

5.You will need to bring the bosses health down to 80% to start Phase 2.

6.Continue moving from end to end in the room depending on the add spawning next however at this point there is already more restricted movement due to Malleable Goo.

7.At 30% health the boss will move into Phase 3, at this point the Off Tank must have cleared as many of the Ooze Piles as possible and then use up all the energy from the Abomination on the boss before dropping the Abomination and getting ready to tank swap on Professor Putricide.

8.We recommend you tank swap at 4 stacks of Mutated Plague, any more and you risk the raid being overwhelmed by the damage. You will need slick and well timed tank swapping for this phase and its at this point that ALL remaining cooldowns should be burnt and Bloodlust used.

9.Loot and Enjoy. This boss will most likely take some practice, lots of positioning and heavy raid movement to take into consideration when building your team.
